Handmade Floats, Traditional Floats, Reed Wagglers, Quill Tip Grayling Bobs, Quill Tip Avons

Hello Float Anglers

You will notice I have been a busy bee of late & have made yet another update of freshly finished floats that im really very proud of.
The reed wagglers are very nice floats, reed is very buoyant as its full of air and also conveniently grows in all different sizes. The reed I use is a very very rare variety according to a pleasant EA chap I was talking while collecting my last batch. This reed has incredibly strong walls which makes them ideal for fishing floats, way tougher than any other I have used & collected from other places. Reed is a fantastic float making material! I always look for the oldest sections which have all kinds of weather marks & patterns, sometimes if im really lucky I can find sections that have been submerged under water for several years, it turns a very dark mottled black brown colour from the months of wind, rain and being covered with water. The ones I have listed have minimal thread to the top & bottom so the natural marks, imperfections & character of the reed can show through, I can apply feathers to them but I prefer to keep them simple although a small feather next to my signature always look nice too. Reed is a top material to use and work with & im in the process of making some very fine stem ones with cork & balsa bodies attached.
.
The quill tip Avons & Grayling bobs are a personal favourite, it always upsets me a little to just use the tip of a quill but the results always leave me forgetting the discarded section. The clear section of the quill tip combined with the adjoining white, red, black & cork body is a great mix of colour, they fish nicely too!! Brilliant!!
.
If you look carefully between the two quill tip avons there is a cork body fluted avon, as far as I know i am the only person to have made them. They work a treat on the Wensum and are nice looking little floats, makes a nice change to balsa and seems to carry a little more weight which always helps with casting etc.
.
As always be sure to get in touch on the usual e mail or phone numbers if you would like me to make a float or two for you.
