Hello Float Anglers

The two large fluted avons are the first of my elder pith floats. Phil Humm sent me some of his old float making gear which contained a half finished float so I cut the flutes and finished it off for him along with another. They are roughly 7ssg in size & much smaller than a balsa float of the same shotting capacity. I have been asked many times to make floats from elder so I thought it about time I made an effort and give them a try. I have several different paint colours so expect to see more pith floats soon. I have been on the hunt for elder pith while walking the dogs in the evenings and I must say what great fun. The elders always seem to grow near fantastic beds of nettles and if im really lucky there is always a nice section I really want covered with brambles!! Lovely!! Ha!! It makes buying balsa seem very bland.
